SAC Board Meeting Minutes September 8, 2004
In attendance: Mary Honey, Susan Copeland, Melissa Pearce, Kim Johnson, Lee Meyers and Amy Mulroy.
SAC Membership Drive: The initial SAC letter to parents did a great job of encouraging participation in SAC activities, but didn’t urge parents to make a contribution and become a member of SAC. Mary will write a second letter to go home the week of September 13. The letter will focus on the SAC membership drive and will also mention the code for Office Depot purchases so a percentage will be returned to Campus School. Envelopes will be attached to the letter, and their return will be tracked the same way as in years past. Susan will ask Susan Roakes to help with collecting returned envelopes from the classrooms each morning during the membership drive. Our goal for the drive, which is scheduled to run from September 14 to October 15, is to raise $7,000. As we have done in the past, classrooms with 100% participation will be rewarded with a Blue Jeans Day.
Tyson Labels: Nancy Harris is preparing a letter to go home to parents announcing that we will be collecting labels from Tyson products. Tyson pays $.24 per label, which is much more lucrative than other label collection fundraisers. Boxes will be decorated and placed at the school entrance for purposes of collecting the labels.
Open House: SAC will man a table at the school entrance during the Open House on September 9. Amy Mulroy will handle Campus monogrammed shirt sales, selling short-sleeved shirts for $15 and long-sleeved shirts for $17. Teachers will have SAC volunteer sign up sheets in their classrooms, with one sheet for each of the 14 SAC events. Mary will collect those and assemble the list of volunteers for each event and then forward the names to event chairs.
Teachers’ Fundraiser: The wrapping paper sale will run from September 16 to October 11. The money raised will be used to finish buying computers to go with the Smart Boards. At least $6,000 is needed for this purpose.
Grant Money: While we were approved for a $10,000 City of Memphis grant some months ago, the process for receiving the money has proven to be quite lengthy. A myriad of paperwork must be completed to receive the grant, and that process is ongoing. All funds will go toward technology.
Adopt A School Program: Campus School needs an organization that can be an active adopter. Ideas will be solicited for companies or organizations that might be good candidates, and then we’ll approach them. Melissa has approached Highland Merchants about adopting Campus as a group.
Building Maintenance: Melissa will talk to the appropriate people about fixing the brick wall in front of the building. She has also spoken to Jim Hellums about repainting the crosswalk on Walker, creating an extra wide crosswalk on Zach Curlin and adding one on Southern.
Treasurer’s Report: Kim noted that we currently have approximately $10,000 in the SAC account, but that doesn’t give an accurate picture because we are still making payments. We are essentially starting over after the big Smart Board purchase for the ’03-’04 school year. The group discussed setting a goal for an amount to raise this year and a specific purchase to make for the school, but decided to seek input from other parents before making a decision.
SAC Letterhead: Stationery is needed for a variety of purposes. Kim will see about getting a logo designed by a graphics designer she knows.
Holiday Fair: Amy is doing research about what would be involved for SAC to reinstate the Holiday Fair event. She’ll make a recommendation at next month’s meeting.
The next board meeting is scheduled for October 13.
