CSPN Board Meeting August 7, 2006
In attendance: The meeting was called to order at 9:20 a.m. with Amy Mulroy, Dr. Susan Copeland, Pam Rose, Mary O’Kelly, Lee Meyers, Senese Duhart and Melissa Pearce in attendance.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Mary O’Kelly reported that CSPN net income for 2005-2006 was nearly $26,000. We ended last year with balances in some accounts for which funds can only be spent in that account, such as Adopt A Book and Destination Imagination. Amy will mention to Ginger Whelan that she should turn in DI receipts for reimbursement.
Yearbooks: The board agreed that it would be a good idea to sell remaining yearbooks at the upcoming Info Fair and during the first week of school. Anna Inman will chair the Yearbook again this year. To make sure she has adequate photos in time for yearbook printing, she will ask each event chair to assign parents to be the official photographer for each event.
Planned Expenditures: The board is considering buying maps for the classrooms from Office Depot. Susan wants to look at the maps before a purchase is made.
Goals for 2006-2007: Amy noted that CSPN accomplished a lot last year, including adding structure with our newly written bylaws. This year, Amy’s goal is to place a greater emphasis on parent networking, including better sharing of information and greater camaraderie among Campus parents. Toward that end, we’ve added additional Skate Nights to the CSPN calendar as well as a Family Fun Night. Fundraising is still important, but the goal is to broaden our focus.
Calendar: The balanced school calendar has been approved by the University of Memphis College of Education dean as well as the U of M provost. The Memphis City Schools must now review it.
Campus Grade Levels: A decision on whether to discontinue the 6th grade and add a Kindergarten is still pending. Dr. Copeland advised the board that she wants to proceed very thoughtfully on this important decision. She committed to making a decision on this matter before the Christmas break.
Info Pack: The plan is to distribute CSPN’s information pack to parents on August 15.
Educational Growth Plan: An additional Smart Board projector was purchased partially with grant money.
Summer Events: The recent CiCi’s Pizza Night netted $90 in store credit and $247 was raised through the summer Skate Night.
Directory: Susan Roakes will be doing this year’s directory. Information requests will go home with the CSPN info pack.
Info Fair: Plans to hold an Info Fair in conjunction with “Meet the Teacher” time on August 11 have been finalized. Tables will be set up with displays for various CSPN events and after school programs.
CSPN Parent Meetings: Parent meetings will be held at the beginning and end of the school year, but instead of a mid-year parent meeting, a Family Fun Night will be held on January 13. At that time, a very brief CSPN meeting will be held, and that will be followed with games and other fun activities.
Next Meetings: A CSPN Parent Meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. on August 24 following parent meetings with teachers, which will run from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. CSPN Board meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m.
Adjournment: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
