CSPN Board Meeting - October 11, 2006
In attendance: The meeting was called to order at 1:35 p.m. with Amy Mulroy, Dr. Susan Copeland, Pam Rose, Mary O’Kelly, Lee Meyers, Claudia Lakey, Beth McGoldrick and Bethany Walker in attendance.
Minutes: The minutes of the September 13 board meeting were approved as submitted.
Bank Statement: Secretary Lee Meyers opened, briefly reviewed and initialed the September bank statement, and then handed it to Treasurer Mary O’Kelly.
Treasurer’s Report: Mary reported a net profit of $8, 735.33 year to date including a $9,232 deposit for the CSPN Support Drive.
Fall Fest: Co-Chairs Bethany Walker and Beth McGoldrick gave an update on this October 26 event. Preparations are well underway, with plans to rent three inflatables and a cotton candy machine. Bethany and Beth are planning to sell $10 wristbands, which will be good for all games and activities, and tickets for food only. This is similar to the system that worked so well for Spring Fling. Parents will be asked to donate candy and cupcakes for prizes. We will ask Melissa Pearce to call Peter Moon at RP Tracks to request food donations and pizzas will be purchased with our $175 CiCi’s credit. The goal is to put a list of auction items on the Web site by October 23 so people can preview it before the silent auction. Bethany and Beth also shared plans for a new event, the Scarecrow Decorating Contest. Class scarecrows will be displayed in the hall outside the classrooms. It was suggested that we ask Laurie Kay to send an email to all room parents with further instructions. Students will also be encouraged to carve pumpkins at home and bring them in for a pumpkin-carving contest. Bethany will follow up with a detailed budget for Fall Fest, but in the interim the board authorized an expenditure of $600.
Support Drive: Proceeds from the drive are now up to $10,500. The board noted that co-chairs Susan Roakes and Janet Denkler have done an excellent job with this important fundraiser.
Cookie Dough Sale: A kick-off assembly will be held on Wednesday, November 1 and the deadline for submitting orders will be two weeks later. Cookie dough delivery is scheduled for the week of December 4.
Teacher Lunch: Talana Vogel has people lined up to bring soup and chips for the teachers on Friday, October 13.
Family Gathering: The next Family Gathering will be held on Wednesday, October 18 along with the awards assembly. This is not the date posted on the original calendar, but it is the date that the Playroom is available. Dr. Copeland noted that the faculty would like CSPN to do a Family Gathering skit on April 13, which is just before TCAP week.
Maps: The map order has been corrected. When the bill arrives, Mary will post it to the new technology line item.
Expenditures: At Susan’s request, the board authorized the expenditure of $90 for Red Ribbon Week. Susan also requested and received approval for $50 to $100 on behalf of Susan Van Dyck to fund expenses related to the upcoming Memphis Symphony Pops Concert.
Lowe’s Grant Application: Lee reported that Deborah Hernandez, Director of Corporate and Foundation Grants for the University of Memphis, will provide some guidance for the preparation of the Lowe’s Grant Application to fund an exercise trail. The board agreed that we should assign this to a couple people so we can be ready in time for the February deadline. Lee will ask Ginger Whelan if she would be willing to work on this.
Climbing Wall: Mary reported that cushioning is not included in the original climbing wall price quote. Susan noted that Memphis City Schools will provide and install bark, so the board agreed to proceed with the purchase of the climbing wall.
Family Math Night: Everyone agreed Family Math Night was a big success with a large crowd and favorable comments from attendees on the activities the teachers planned.
School Performance: Susan reported that Campus was the highest performer among Memphis City Schools with 99% of students performing at the proficient or advanced levels in reading and math. The board congratulated Dr. Copeland and the entire faculty on this significant accomplishment.
Next Meeting: The next CSPN Board meeting is scheduled for November 8.
Adjournment: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
