CSPN Board Meeting - February 13, 2007
In attendance: The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. with Amy Mulroy, Pam Rose, Mary O’Kelly, Claudia Lakey, Diane Coleman and Lee Meyers in attendance.
Minutes: The January 17 board meeting minutes were reviewed and approved as submitted.
Bank Statement: Secretary Lee Meyers opened, briefly reviewed, initialed the January bank statement and handed it to Treasurer Mary O’Kelly for processing.
Treasurer’s Report: Mary reported a net profit year to date of $14,052.28, including January income of $1067.00 and expenditures of $2,928.08. Mary pointed out that January is typically a month with more expenses than income.
Family Fun Night: This January 18 event went well, with approximately 150 people in attendance. The board expressed thanks to event chair Kari Duncan for putting together a lot of fun activities. Gretchen Skypeck’s preparation of event signage was also noted. The board will definitely consider repeating this event again next year.
Book Fair: The Campus Book Fair will be held the week of March 19, with Family Reading Festival Night on Thursday, March 22. Tammy Vanderhook is chairing this event, and preparation is well underway. Tammy asked the board to suggest some ideas for celebrity readers. Diane offered to check with the Memphis Grizzlies and Amy will check with Theatre Memphis.
Web Site: The Campus School site is back up at the new temporary Web address, http://umdrive.memphis.edu/jmcraft/public/.
Accreditation: A four-member team will be at Campus March 13-14 for an accreditation survey. CSPN will provide breakfast for the survey team on the 13th and snacks for the report meeting on the afternoon of the14th.
Teacher Luncheon: Diane reported that the teachers really appreciate these lunches and she extended thanks from the faculty to all the volunteers. Talana has completed arrangements for the next lunch, which will be on February 14.
Holiday Fair: Mary noted that we made nearly a $600 profit on this service event. We received a 5% vendor rebate and will be eligible for a 10% rebate next year if we go ahead and commit to using the same vendor. The board agreed to go ahead with the same vendor, and Mary will call to make the necessary arrangements.
Year End CSPN Parent Meeting: We will check with Dr. Copeland to see if we can invite incoming parents to this meeting. The board also discussed ideas for increasing attendance, but a final decision was not made.
Skate Night: There was good attendance at the last Skate Night, but the total dollars raised was less than we typically make. East End Skating has asked again to raise the price from $5 to $6. The board agreed to ask East End to continue with the $5 entrance fee, but with a more generous share of the proceeds ($3 rather than the current $2.50). This is not a large fundraiser and the board felt it was more important to keep the entrance fee affordable.
Survey: Amy asked if the group wants to repeat the parent survey we did last spring. The board agreed that we should go ahead and do the survey, and attach it to the April newsletter. We may also add a suggestion box at the August Info Fair to gain further parent input.
Library: Susan was not able to attend the meeting due to illness so she will email the library plan to the group. The library will be closed February 22-23 for cleaning and weeding old books out of the collection.
Climbing Wall: Jim Hellums, U of M Physical Plant Director approved the climbing wall purchase. He also wants the University legal counsel to review it. Legal has asked for 3 inch mats rather than the 2 inch mats that were originally planned. This will increase the cost by $385, and the board approved this additional expenditure. Diane checked vendor references and all were positive. The order will be placed as soon as we get final legal approval.
Lowe’s Grant: Diane Coleman and Ginger Whelan looked into this grant and after finding out more detail, they recommended we not pursue it further because it requires a self-build. The group agreed with this recommendation.
Spring Fling: Event Chair Claudia Lakey is working on plans for Spring Fling, and she plans to use the same bracelet system in place of game tickets. She will order 350 bracelets at $.62 each and they will be imprinted with “Spring Fling 2007.” The bracelets will be offered at $8 each, down from last year’s price of $10. CSPN has raised a significant amount of money this year, and we believe we can afford to offer this price reduction.
Next Meeting: The next CSPN Board meeting is scheduled for March 14 at 1:30 p.m.
Adjournment: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m.
