Minutes of SAC Parents Meeting Thursday, September 4, 2003

The meeting was called to order by Jack Sammons who welcomed the new and returning parents. He introduced the SAC board, including Jennifer Sammons, president, Mary Honey, vice president, Bruce and Kim Schadrack, treasurers and Lee Meyers (absent), secretary.

Parents were informed that Campus School shirts are available for order. Interested parents should see the table in the hall.

Bruce Schadrack reviewed the budget for 2003-04.

Jennifer reported that we have identified some attainable goals for the year. The volunteer drive is currently underway, and there is something for everyone to do. The membership drive is in progress as well.

Jennifer identified some new things that SAC will be doing this year. Instead of the Holiday Fair, we will have a cookie dough and cheesecake sale. A candy cart will be available on Fridays and the School Box will now be a cart with sales of pens, pencils, paper and a few other items.

The Fall Fest Carnival and Silent Auction is scheduled for Thursday, October 30. Classrooms will still assemble baskets for the auction, but the carnival will be the main focus of the event. Chair Deanna Showli is planning activities such as sack races and bobbing for apples. It promises to be a fun family event.

A golf tournament will be held in April at Galloway Golf Course.

Mrs. Merritt is the faculty member over Adopt-A-School. If anyone knows of a business that might be interested in being an Adopter for Campus, please contact her. We can have more than one.

Questions from parents:
What color sweaters that can be worn to school? White, navy and black sweaters can be worn.

What is the first Skate Night date? The first Skate Night date, November 6, was omitted from the calendar that was sent out.

Mrs. Sammons then turned the program over to Campus School director Susan Copeland. Susan announced that Campus has been recognized for superior performance by the state of Tennessee. It is one of only 97 schools (out of 1200) to receive this honor.

Ms. Copeland then introduced the faculty, staff and student teachers. She also stated her commitment to 100% SAC membership. She considers SAC members "Crusaders for Children." Ms. Copeland also stated that the teachers had unanimously agreed to donate 100% of the fall teachers' fundraiser to toward the Smart Cart purchase. The teachers typically use their fundraiser to purchase furniture for the classrooms.

Another fundraiser is the collection of used toner cartridges. The proceeds from this will be used to purchase printers and ink for the classrooms.

Jennifer thanked the parents for coming and encouraged them to attend future SAC meetings.
