CSPNParents Meeting – August 23, 2005

Board President Welcome and Opening Remarks: Melissa Pearce, CSPN Board President, opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. She welcomed the large crowd of parents and teachers, and she made the following announcements:

• She introduced the CSPN Board, including Amy Mulroy, Vice President/ President Elect; Mary O’Kelly and Kim Johnson, co-treasurers; and Lee Meyers, secretary.

• She explained that SAC will now be known as CSPN, Campus School Parent Network. The reason for the change is to better describe what the parent network is all about and to avoid confusion with other U of M groups known by the SAC acronym.

• A Campus School List Serve has been established. Melissa asked Campus Parent and CSPN Webmaster Milton Craft to explain how to get on the list serve. Milton also mentioned that he has been working on improvements to the website and more information is still being added.

• Parents were encouraged to volunteer to co-chair or volunteer to support a Campus event or committee.

• Melissa encouraged parents to ask their employers to get involved by committing dollars or tutors.

Minutes of the July 30 Board Meeting: Lee Meyers gave a brief report of the board’s most recent meeting. Minutes are posted on the website.

Treasurer’s Report: Mary O’Kelly reported that CSPN spent the 2004-2005 year rebuilding the coffers after the major purchase of Smart Boards in 2004. CSPN currently has approximately $19,000 in its account. Commitments have been made to purchase 14 art tables and some musical instruments. A list of other needs is being assembled.

Volunteer Sheet: Amy Mulroy encouraged parents to return the blue volunteer sheet that was sent home in the packet of CSPN materials.

Director’s Report: Susan Copeland encouraged parents to get involved. She announced several recent Campus school awards including the Level 2 Malcolm Baldridge award and State recognition for academic achievement. She pointed out that one of the advantages of Campus School is that it is small enough for us all to get to know each other. She introduced all Campus Teachers and staff as noted on the following page. She pointed out that because of University of Memphis support, Campus is privileged to have full time support staff that most schools don’t have.

Additional Announcements: Several announcements were made about what parents can do to help. One way to help is to turn in labels including Campbell’s Soup labels, Tyson labels and Box Tops for Education. Diane Coleman reported each teacher has a Box Tops for Education collection box in their classroom. We raised $600 last year and have set a $2000 goal for this year. Parents can also go to the website (boxtopsforeducation.com) and sign up to be a booster.
Parents should also ask teachers for specific volunteer needs they might have.

CSPN Support Drive: As Campus parents or guardians, everyone is a member of CSPN. However, it’s helpful for parents to show their support with a monetary contribution. Any amount is a boost for Campus, and it is especially helpful if each class can reach our goal of 100% participation. A green form about the support drive went home in the CSPN packet. Watch for more information from Support Drive co-chairs Susan Roakes and Laura Graham.

Campus Shirts: Amy Mulroy pointed out that uniform shirts with the Campus logo are available for sale after the meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
