CSPN Parent Meeting March 2, 2006
Welcome and President’s Report: The meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm. CSPN board president Melissa Pearce welcomed parents and family members.
Communication: Melissa encouraged parents to go to the school website (www.campusschool.org) and sign up for the listserv as an easy way to have quick access to school information. Upcoming events were highlighted, including Skate Night, Retro Prom and Book Fair. She also noted that the Parent Balanced Schedule Committee will be meeting on March 27 at 6:00 p.m. Finally, Melissa noted that Spring Fling will be held on April 28 and many parent volunteers are needed to make this event a success.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Mary O’Kelly reported that CSPN has a netted a profit of $19,000 following a number of successful fundraising events.
Secretary’s Report: Secretary Lee Meyers distributed the minutes from the February 8 CSPN Board meeting.
Dr. Copeland’s Report: Campus School Director Susan Copeland reported that a school-wide P.E. Demonstration will be held before the end of the school year and she encouraged parents to watch for more information on that event. She also shared testing tips for students, noting that these tips are useful in preparing for TCAPs but they are also helpful for other forms of testing.
Vice President’s Report: CSPN Board Vice President/President-Elect Amy Mulroy reported on plans for this year’s book fair, which will be held on March 20-24. This year the book fair features a “Camp” theme, which promises to be a lot of fun. Many parent volunteers are needed. Amy thanked Yearbook chair Anna Inman for completing last year’s yearbook and making good progress so far on the 2005-2006 yearbook. Pictures are still needed to complete the book and parents are encouraged to submit pictures by email to ainman@memphis.edu. Amy noted that CSPN will be sending out a parent survey right after Spring Break and she urged parents to complete and return the survey so CSPN can be responsive to parents’ needs.
Question & Answer Session: Susan responded to questions about the future of the 6th grade at Campus. She reported that the School Board is scheduled to vote within the next month on whether to make middle schools 6th to 8th grades effective during the 2007-2008 school year. She encouraged parents with strong feelings on this subject to go to the Memphis City Schools website to contact their board representative and the representative for the Campus School zone and share their thoughts. Susan also reported that White Station Middle School has broken ground on its new building, which is now scheduled to open in 2007.
4th Grade Chorus Performance: Susan Van Dyck led the Campus 4th graders in an extraordinary musical performance honoring Black History Month.
