CSPN Parent Meeting April 27, 2006
Welcome: Outgoing CSPN President Melissa Pearce welcomed the large crowd of parents. She thanked the committee chairs and volunteers for all their hard work.
Spring Fling: Melissa reminded everyone that Spring Fling has been rescheduled to May 19 due to weather. Parents can still buy tickets and wristbands. She explained that instead of the ticket process used in the past, we are selling $10 wristbands that are good for all activities. Tickets will still be used for food. Melissa noted that more parent volunteers are needed, and she thanked Claudia Lakey for chairing the event.
Summer Events: CSPN is planning some fun activities for summer. Since the CiCi’s Pizza Nights have been so successful, another one will be held during the summer months. A summer Skate Night is also planned. Melissa suggested that parents check the Campus website regularly (www.campusschool.org) or call the school for more information as dates for these two events have not yet been set.
Survey: A CSPN survey will be sent home to solicit parent feedback. The goal is to discover ways we can fine-tune CSPN to make it even more effective.
Communication: Based on parent feedback from last year, one of CSPN’s major goals this year was to improve communication. A monthly newsletter was published, thanks to CSPN Vice President/President-Elect Amy Mulroy and the website was enhanced and updated regularly, thanks to Milton Craft.
Adopt-A-Book: This program has been a big success and Melissa credited Lois Young, Adopt-A-Book chair for her creativity and hard work. Ms. Harris was able to purchase 30 new books for the school library, using proceeds from this program. Melissa noted that if parents are planning teacher gifts, they might consider Adopt-A-Book. [Note: It’s easy to do this online. Just go to www.campusschool.org, click on CSPN Programs and then click on the Adopt-A-Book icon].
Box Tops: Parents were encouraged to continue saving box tops over the summer.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Mary O’Kelly reported that we have raised $21,000 so far this year and more is expected since the report doesn’t include Spring Fling. She pointed out that the Support Drive raised a record $8,000 and Holiday Fair did better than usual. With these funds, CSPN was able to purchase a number of items to enhance the learning environment, including computers, musical instruments and art tables. Melissa noted that we made leaps and bounds of progress, particularly in the area of technology.
Play Yard: The Memphis City Schools brought our play yard up to code at no charge to us. CSPN is looking at purchasing a small climbing wall.
Yearbook: Photos of school events and activities are still needed for the yearbook. Please email those to Anna Inman (ainman@memphis.edu) or drop them at the office.
Director’s Report: Dr. Copeland thanked all the parents for their support and noted that they had accomplished a number of great things for the school this year. She reminded parents to check the Campus website regularly over the summer for book lists, school supply lists and more. She announced that there will be a tax-free school supply shopping weekend August 5-6, and more information will be shared on the website as it becomes available. Dr. Copeland also reminded everyone that there is still a lot of school left and she encouraged parents to help their children stay focused.
Vice President’s Report: Amy Mulroy encouraged parents to complete the CSPN survey mentioned earlier. She reported that there are still Campus School logo shirts available and parents should contact her to make a purchase. Amy then introduced the board for the 2006-07 school year. Amy will be CSPN board president, Pam Rose will be vice president/president-elect, Mary O’Kelly will continue as treasurer, Lee Meyers will continue as secretary and Senese Duhart will serve as assistant treasurer. Amy thanked Melissa again for her many contributions as president.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m. The next CSPN board meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m.
