CSPN Parent Meeting

May 1, 2007

Welcome: President Amy Mulroy called the meeting to order. She thanked everyone and welcomed them to the final CSPN meeting of the year. Amy provided a year-end summary, noting accomplishments of major purchases for the school and community building activities. She thanked outgoing CSPN board members and then introduced incoming CSPN board president Pam Rose.

Incoming President Remarks: Pam introduced the board members for 2007-2008: Vice President: Claudia Lakey, Co-Treasurers Senese Duhart and Janet Denkler and Secretary Lee Meyers.

Treasurer’s Report: Outgoing Treasurer Mary O’Kelly reported that CSPN generated a net profit of $25,000 for the year, with the very successful $10,000 support drive contributing significantly to that total. Consistent with CSPN’s purpose, that money was reinvested in improving the learning environment at Campus. Major purchases included library improvements, technology, musical instruments and P.E. equipment.

Summer Events: Pam announced that a summer Skate Night will be held on July 10 and a CiCi’s Pizza Night is scheduled for August 2.

Dr. Copeland’s Remarks: Dr. Susan Copeland also thanked parents for attending, and she encouraged parents to check the school web site over the summer. She briefly recapped Campus accomplishments for the year, most notably the accreditation at the exemplary level by our accreditation body, SACS CASI.

Climbing Wall: With the help of several students, Diane Coleman demonstrated the features and benefits of the transverse climbing wall. She pointed out that the wall, which measures 32 feet across by 8 feet high, is the only one of its kind in a Memphis City School. The wall has a safety mat locking system, and the wall can be used in a variety of ways. It can even be used to enhance learning across the curriculum by playing Wall Scrabble with science vocabulary, for example. Diane also noted that parents must sign a permission slip before students can use the climbing wall, and these are due by May 4.

The meeting was adjourned following the climbing demonstration.
